Expedition
The expedition lasts for two days, students need to be totally self sufficient, meaning:
-
They must carry all their own equipment and food, they cannot buy any along the route.
-
They must navigate their own route.
-
Getting lost does not mean you fail, it just means you end up walking further.
Equipment
We supply the backpack, tent, sleeping mat and stove. The only piece of equipment students need to buy is a sleeping bag.
Water
Students need to carry at least 1.5 litres of water with them, once students arrive at the campsite there is unlimited water.
Safety
Students walk as a group without direct supervision, we check in with students throughout the day and have planned routes that avoid busy roads. All groups are supplied with a first aid kit.
Phones
Mobile phones are not allowed, in each group one mobile phone is carried in case of emergency. This must be turned off and in a sealed bag provided by school.

Food
Students need to carefully plan what to eat for the expedition.
Your evening meal must be a hot meal you prepare on a camp stove, you will need to plan this with your tent group.
For the rest of the expedition you will need to bring lunch for day one and day two, breakfast for day 2 and lots of snacks.
You are going to need to eat a lot more than you normally do in a day!
